6 tips for healthy skin this Autumn!

The summer has officially ended, and the Christmas adverts have started! But as we reach for our hats and gloves, it’s important to think about our skin this Autumn. Here’s our quick list of the best ways to support the largest organ of the body.

  • Stay hydrated: The cheapest anti wrinkle treatment there is… and we’ve all heard about it! Drinking 1.5-2 litres of filtered water a day (depending on age & weight) will keep your skin plump, and help your digestive system reduce toxic overload.

  • Vitamin A (the forgotten vitamin): With lots of benefits this vitamin helps reduce inflammation, heals your gut and can be used topically to stimulate cell growth to help repair skin tissue! There are lots of ways to increase Vitamin A from your diet, by including salmon & mackerel, butter, eggs, cheese, carrots, sweet-potato, red pepper, mango, butternut squash, liver, cod liver oil, mackerel. 

  • Zinc: While this essential mineral supports immunity & healing, it is also a co-factor for healthy hormone function! Zinc can be particularly beneficial for those suffering with acne. A few sources of zinc include: red meat (organic & grass fed), shellfish, chickpeas, beans, lentils, nuts and seeds (pumpkin).

  • Vitamin C: As well as being antioxidizing, Vitamin C increases healing & improves collagen synthesis. It can be found in berries, citrus, red pepper, leafy greens, kiwi fruits, parsley, papaya.

  • Vitamin E: Helps control free radicals that can damage skin.
    Sources include: Sunflower seeds, almonds, hazelnuts, pine nuts, avocado, trout and salmon.

  • Omega 3 Essential fatty acids: Required for cell structure and reducing inflammation therefore important in wound healing: Sources: Cold water (small fish), sardines, salmon & mackerel.
